Endocrine Mechanisms in PCOS: A Synthesis of Current Research
Main Article Content
Abstract
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a multifactorial endocrine condition that affects women of reproductive age. This study reviews the endocrine mechanisms underlying PCOS and their relationship with insulin resistance, and explores the relationship between endocrine mechanisms and insulin resistance in PCOS. The sample consisted of a bibliographic review of original scientific studies and systematic reviews related to the topic, using electronic databases and bibliographic management tools such as PubMed and Mendeley. The results show a close association between hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance and ovarian dysfunction in PCOS, highlighting the importance of addressing these conditions comprehensively in the clinical management of the disease. The findings suggest the need to reduce androgen levels to optimize clinical outcomes in women with PCOS. The discussion emphasizes the importance of considering insulin resistance as a central component in the pathophysiology of PCOS and highlights the need for future research to develop more effective and personalized therapeutic approaches.
